Mini-Apolis: A 3D Model Of Minneapolis
Savage, MN
2024, Senior, Interactive & Multimedia
Project Description: Our project, “Mini-Apolis”, depicts the city of Minneapolis as an accurate, to-scale 3D model, and the effects climate change has had on our city. As residents of the Twin Cities, we wanted to tell our climate story by making an interactive exhibit, where kids and adults alike can interact with our online platform (like a website) to project videos onto our 3D model and learn how climate change is affecting our city. On the online platform, our community can read information on each of the climate-change topics (Minnesota tree loss due to climate change, warming temperatures, Mississippi River effects, Canadian fires, etc.) and simultaneously watch projected videos on the model, creating an interactive and entertaining learning experience. In addition, the model can catch the eyes of younger children without the projections, as guests can write and draw on the model with whiteboard markers to further personalize their experience. We can partner our non-profit, Students Teaching Students, with our local library to use our interactive climate change exhibit to educate young children. Our nonprofit, originally created in 2023 to assist students in high school through free tutoring meetings weekly, provides knowledge on the importance of understanding climate change by utilizing our model to connect with our community around us. Meeting rooms in our local libraries would allow us to educate those interested in learning how to make an impact through free sessions that explain the current societal impacts of climate change. Our goal with “Mini-Apolis” is to create a better future for our earth by impacting the views of other civilians in our community on the current climate crisis because we all have the opportunity to make an impact through our life, our story, and our choices.
