I Want to be Carried Away by a Fish

I want to be carried away by a fish
Feel its gills glide underneath me
The water slide between my fingers
The sun’s rays shine on my back
Laugh as it swerves from the shore and back
I want to feel the sacred pleasure
Of letting it all free
Of seeing the world
From on a fish’s back
Covered with the same sun rays as mine
Flying
Soaring across the water
Like a bird through the ocean’s trees
What would it be like if we all had a fish
In which we could soar on the ocean
seas?
Reflection
My poem shows the longing that I have for us to be able to enjoy the ocean, which plays such a pivotal role in our lives. The words “sacred pleasure” show how the moment is fleeting, and that if we don't take action we might not be able to enjoy our ocean much longer. “Covered with the same sun rays as mine” shows how we should be able to relate to the animals that are being affected by climate change, and how we are all being impacted in certain aspects. The phrase “what would it be like if we all had a fish in which we could soar the ocean seas?” is ironic, for it describes the question of what life would be like if we all took action to prevent this issue and enjoy the wonders of our planet's ocean. This poem represents how, if we all took the time to appreciate our ocean and the wonders it serves for us, we could make an impact on the world and prevent this issue from becoming worse.
