Reflection

For my Bow Seat project, I decided to address the topic of ocean acidification because it seems like a lot of the general public does not know about that it can be just as devastating to marine ecosystems and human societies as climate change. The public is not aware that ocean acidification can drastically reduce shellfish and coral populations, and it can devastate the coastal communities that rely on them for fisheries and tourism. Because I think that music is the most accessible of art forms to educate the public, I decided to write and perform a song about acidification. I was originally inspired by one of my classmates that won the Pearl Award in the Bow Seat Competition by writing a song about ghost fishing, and given that I am a musician and music producer, I found that I would best convey the information through the medium of music. I composed an original track from scratch using Logic Pro X, featuring myself on vocals, piano, synthesizer, and drums. Producing a complete song turned out to be a lot more work than originally expected, although I can say with confidence that I am proud of my finished song.
