I bought a white veil this January to use as a prop for my pictures. After buying the veil, I washed it, naturally soaking it in the process. When the veil was wet, it turned transparent, clinging to my skin. I stared at the veil, dripping with water, and thought: isn't the ozone layer just like this white veil? Thin, transparent, and clinging to the earth. Thus, an idea popped into my mind to try and simulate the ozone layer with my veil. The next day, I went to the pool to turn my vision into a reality, and the outcome was beyond my expectations. As I shot my pictures, I found that the veil, when covering the model's body, looked like a massive inflated plastic bag. I couldn't help but think of how the model resembled a fish, trapped in a floating plastic bag. The feeling of creating such a work of photography was remarkable, thanks to the element of surprise. Unintentionally, my photo portrayed not only the fragility of the ozone layer, but also the fragility of marine life. I want my picture to portray the connection between humans and fish. When it comes down to it, we are one and the same, both living, breathing species sharing the same planet. We create carbon dioxide, and it stays in the ozone layer; we produce plastic, and we suffer from it. We are suffering a climate crisis. I know I can't do much, but I tried my best not to make it worse, starting from skateboarding to class.
