Ocean Man
Guayama, Puerto Rico
2021, Senior, Performing Arts
(Verse 1)
Back in time
When I only knew ‘bout toys
I wasn’t aware of all the crimes
That’d been done to a place
Where I could stare back full of joy
What’s the plan?
The sky’s getting so much worse
Many destructions to our land
And the life that surrounds
All the corners of our Earth
(Pre-Chorus)
There’s no time to escape
All the mess that we have made
All the oceans of the Earth can’t take the pain no more
(Chorus)
Can’t you see the waters rise
Endless trash laying on our side
The immortal plastic bags
We can all say no to that
So much carbon dioxide
Breaking havoc on all life
Take the courage, you can be
The superhero from our land
(Post-Chorus)
‘Cause you can be the
Ocean Man
Ocean Man
We can all be the
Ocean Man
Ocean Man
Save the turtles, be
Ocean Man
Ocean Man
Give back the love they’ve given us
(Verse 2)
The raging heat
Hugging all our precious seas
We have to break this toxic love
For the ones after us
So they can stare back full of joy
Our paradise
Won’t survive this endless war
Between nature and mankind
Many lands won’t be whole
Being swallowed by our pride
(Pre-Chorus)
All the trash breaking in
We can’t let them all sink in
All the oceans of the Earth can’t take the pain no more
(Chorus)
Can’t you see the waters rise
Endless trash laying on our side
The immortal plastic bags
We can all say no to that
So much carbon dioxide
Breaking havoc on all life
Take the courage, you can be
The superhero from our land
(Bridge)
And I hope
When I’m gone, it won’t be no more
Big eyes from the sky
Give a hand
Help the sea, it can’t take no more
Just remember this
Water unites us all
(Refrain)
Ocean Man
Ocean Man
We can all be the
Ocean Man
Ocean Man
We can all be the
Ocean Man
Ocean Man
We can all be the
Ocean Man
Ocean Man
(Chorus)
Can’t you see the waters rise
Endless trash laying on our side
The immortal plastic bags
We can all say no to that
So much carbon dioxide
Breaking havoc on all life
Take the courage, you can be
The superhero from our land
(Post-Chorus)
‘Cause you can be the
Ocean Man
Ocean Man
We can all be the
Ocean Man
Ocean Man
Save the turtles, be
Ocean Man
Ocean Man
Give back the love they’ve given us

Reflection
Reflection
Where I live here in Puerto Rico, there have been many catastrophes related to the climate. I remember all the experiences from Hurricane Maria, and it has impacted me immensely since then. I took inspiration from all those memories with some additional key points that relate to the oceans and decided to make it into a song about being a superhero and saving our waters. It all works like a domino effect, since the water in our planet is connected to almost every aspect of our lives. Climate change is a big factor, and we must take action to get rid of the problem. Many places have been affected, and I hope this song promotes and inspires people to make a change to help the environment.
