Turn off the news
Just throw out the whole TV
I think that it’s making you say things you don’t mean
The heat wave might be extinction
And I’ll proudly burst into flames
I’m living to see it get worse day by day

It’s never felt warmer each day

Make it stop, make it stop
Stop what you’re telling me
We don’t need a home anymore
The weather’s hot, the weather’s hot,
The temperature’s hugging me
I’ve never felt so loved before
Why can’t it be like this more?

Turn off the news
Just throw out the whole TV
If not enough people notice we’ll come clean
We’re on the road to extinction
Our sixth one, to be precise
And driving along has never felt so nice

It’s never felt warmer each day

Make it stop, make it stop
Stop what you’re telling me
We don’t need a home anymore
The weather’s hot, the weather’s hot,
The temperature’s hugging me
I’ve never felt so loved before
Why can’t it be like this more?

Make it stop, make it stop
Stop what you’re telling me
We don’t need a home anymore
Make it stop, make it stop
Stop what you’re telling me
We don’t need a home anymore
The weather’s hot, the weather’s hot,
The temperature’s hugging me
I’ve never felt so loved before
Why can’t it be like this more?

Reflection

I was inspired by my own environmental efforts in my community (climate strike organizing, lobbying, and starting a youth-led organization) and my music experience to combine the two subjects I love into one form of art. Growing up with music, I’ve always known the impact that music can have on a person. However, I never thought that I could combine the arts and climate change to make a difference, especially with irony. I learned from this Contest that the most unconventional approaches to action can have the biggest impact on people.
