Climate Hero: Elizabeth Wanthuti, Green Generation Initiative
Reflection
When I came across Elizabeth Wanthuti, I was astonished at the work she has done. At such a young age, she had already been able to contribute so much to help our climate heal. Elizabeth has founded multiple programs over the years, and along with many Kenyan activists, planted thousands of trees. When picking my medium, I decided to use acrylic because it was able to represent vivid leaves effectively. In addition, I picked various types of leaves to use in my actual painting. This is to represent the many ecosystems Elizabeth has helped by planting trees. I added jewelry with green leaves onto Elizabeth herself to indicate her dedication to and love for nature. Through my exploration of this year’s theme, I learned that although one may be young, they can still make a huge impact. As Elizabeth once said “Youth and children, as the next generations, have the right to a clean future”.
