Wash Away the Pain

Reflection

From my early childhood, I recall my mom reciting heart-warming stories from her youth, visiting koalas in Taiwan and Australia. I decided to create a scene that displays the desperate struggle that koalas are facing due to climate change, such as habitat loss and diminishing food sources. I added my own personal touches, such as the koala toy my grandparents gifted me as a kid, representing my desire to comfort them and ease their suffering. Pictured on the upper is my hand pouring water to douse the flames. It represents that even the smallest efforts to save the environment makes a difference. I strongly believe that we have a responsibility and duty to protect the vulnerable wildlife. On this specific project, I feel passionate about the meaning behind this piece since it has a sentimental backstory for myself and my mother, and focuses on the consequences of climate change. If I had an opportunity to share a message to the viewers of my artwork, I would say, go and make a difference, no matter how big or small it might be. Everything you do to save the Earth counts, even if it’s just recycling a plastic bottle, turning off lights when they aren’t being used, or planting a tree. You have to remember that when it comes to climate change, it isn’t just us that’s at stake. As I dug deeper into climate change, I learned that deforestation is the destruction of a forest, which in turn contributes to global warming by reducing the amount of plants to filter carbon dioxide. In order to tackle climate change, I will participate in clubs that raise awareness on global warming, engage in group volunteering activities such as picking up trash and planting trees, and sharing my environmental themed artwork with my community.
