As kids, many loved reading picture books with animal characters. However, those memories are in the past. Due to greenhouse gas levels increasing, wildfires breaking out, and seawater rising, all that will be left of these animals are precious books, simply a part of history. Polar bears, penguins, seals, and countless innocent species will only be remembered, living and trapped between these pages of climate change. It pains me to picture a reality where these unique animals are only read as legends, never to be seen again. The young girl is reading the book, “The Last Polar Bear” as she struggles to hold her glassy tears in. I added a few endangered animals trying to read her book to represent the surrealism of this situation. How could we have let ourselves destroy our planet to this degree? Is this our future? It is not too late to make amends to save our planet and future. I hope my artwork provides a glimpse of the future of climate change and inspires people to take action for the sake of not only our planet’s future, but also our future.
