Reflection
Initially, fixing climate change seemed impossible, as it is an unavoidable consequence of technological advancement. However, after extensive research, my team discovered that human carbon footprints can be lessened by everyday actions, such as conserving water, reducing waste, and buying sustainable products. This realization inspired our project: an artistic video that conveys the message that individual actions can significantly reverse climate change. The video illustrates the effects of climate change through the life of Trubella, who is the focal point as she indulges in wasteful habits, her screen fading from full color to black and white. The gradual shift from color to black and white symbolizes the devastating impact of harmful habits, illustrating how our vibrant world deteriorates into lifelessness. Trubella's destructive behaviors emphasize the critical need for change. This visual metaphor underscores the significant influence of everyday choices on climate change. Trubella's iPad shows a news report about predictions of future natural disasters and ongoing climate change as she falls asleep, transitioning into her dream. The narrative climaxes in a dream sequence set in 2085, where Trubella is incarcerated for the reckless behavior that has debilitated planet Earth. During her trial, the prosecutor lists the catastrophic consequences of Trubella's actions, including animal extinction and natural disasters, emphasizing that the environment eventually retaliates, affecting human homes and lives. A four-second blackout screen forces the audience to see their reflections between scenes, urging them to ponder their role in climate change. After Trubella realizes her wasteful actions caused harm to the planet, she envisions a world where she makes responsible choices. As the intense dream sequence progresses, Trubella reappears, determined to change her wasteful actions. Wearing green clothing to symbolize her newfound commitment to protecting the planet, Trubella extends her hand to her former self, leading her out of the dark, oppressive courtroom into a colorful, hopeful world. Helping her old self break free from her bonds represents the potential for redemption and transformation through adopting better habits. The ending contrasts starkly with the beginning of the video, highlighting the potential the viewer to change his or her mindset, break wasteful habits, and adopt more sustainable practices. In the end, we present various solutions to help mitigate climate change. After the dream, the camera turns to the iPad, which now displays a beautiful nature scene, symbolizing the importance of changing small behaviors to help our beautiful planet.
