Reflection

Climate change is like a box that keeps getting smaller. And me, I'm stuck in that box. There's an opening in which light is coming in, but it's barely wide enough for my finger to go through. It's an inescapable feeling of being trapped, like the surface is so close but just not close enough. In creating an idea for my art, I channeled all these emotions by focusing on the root of the problem: human pollution. The most prominent figure I wanted to highlight was the "heart of the ocean." It is surrounded by life and beauty, and in the center, is its light and power. However, several hands are trying to capture it, unaware of the unnatural polluted liquid that has replaced their blood. Through this I wanted to focus on the ignorance displayed by humans. That ignorance is what has allowed climate change to even come this far and start affecting our oceans. I touched upon that idea again through the waste bags. After all, ignorance is bliss. The hands are emerging from a pile of waste and chemicals, intermingled with several creatures deeply affected by the pollution. But I don't think hope is lost. Our future can be changed by the future of mankind -- the ones who still see purity in the world.
