Erasing Our Oceans

Reflection

Through my piece, I wanted to illustrate the horrible effects of climate change and the destructive repercussions that releasing greenhouse gases has on our oceans and marine life. The eraser and the human hand illustrate how our man-made greenhouse gases cause climate change and obliterate the present and future of our ocean ecosystem. There’s also a clear contrast in the color of the hands and eraser compared to the sea turtle and ocean. This is to show the cool temperature of our nature contrasting with the filthy heated waste humans create. The air bubbles coming out of the turtle represent the turtle losing its oxygen and the urgency for it to breathe and reach the surface to survive, which represents our oceans' current desperate struggle to survive. However, the humans erase the neck of the turtle with our air pollution, symbolizing killing it before it has the chance to reach the surface and take its last breath. Do we really want to be a helping hand in destroying our ocean as well as our future? I want to spread awareness through this artwork and inform people that we need to be a part of the change that we want to see.
