Losing the Sea

Reflection

Our ecosystem is changing in significant ways, yet we fail to acknowledge such changes and remain to be indifferent bystanders. Raising awareness regarding the issues of climate change and rising sea levels has always been a dedicated interest of mine. My inspiration came from the fact that despite how much we understand the potentially catastrophic environmental consequences of climate change, many of us choose to neglect our responsibilities. The film opens with vivid and colorful corals and a man with his head burrowed. The man represents the authorities who rarely take any action and are utterly indifferent to environmental issues. As the man recklessly releases the pollutants, the ocean starts to lose its vitality. Eventually, the man and the pollution are all that remain. By focusing on the man, who in a larger sense symbolizes mankind, it shows how we are responsible for our actions and its impacts on the ocean. Through this piece, I wanted to address that the neglect from people will bring forth dangerous consequences in the near future, and mankind will walk a path of no return.
