Reflection

Recently scientists have undertaken an ecological study of the Black Sea and the life of its inhabitants. The conclusions are disappointing - the Black Sea is one of the most polluted spots on our planet. Why? Human activities. According to the investigation results, the greatest contamination is by plastics, which harms and chokes the sea, making the living layer four meters smaller every year. People are not ready to fully opt out of plastics since they are widely used and much cheaper than their eco-counterparts. Meanwhile, most plastics are not recycled. That`s why our student team Zero Waste School Kherson created the project Kherson Region Without Waste, in which we are training different groups of people how to sort out and utilize plastics correctly. We are also helping the coastal rural councils organize the process of accumulation and removal of everything that can be recycled. We are also monitoring the pollution situation during tourist time. We are planning to hold a Zero Waste Day event, during which we, together with our supporters, are going to clean 12 kilometers of the Black Sea coastal line.
