The topic of this contest was “Our Ocean, Our Plastic”. This reminded me about how we constantly dump our garbage, which includes plastic, into our ocean. In my art piece, there is a human drinking a cup of clean ocean water with fishes in it. As the clean water goes through the human, it starts to get dirtier and dirtier. It’s the same thing as what’s really happening. We are using the ocean as garbage can even though the ocean provides us with infinite resource of food and other things that are necessary for humans. If human keep dumping things that we produced for our own greed and benefit, eventually the entire ocean is going to turn into a trash which we caused it on our own. We can’t have beautiful coral reefs, or the beautiful fishes that swim within. The black drips in the background represent oil spills that are from the ships. As well as plastic, oil spills make it hard for other animals to survive. Though the topic emphasizes on plastic, I thought that it would be an appropriate to tell people about other things that pollute the ocean as well. I hope one day we will stop all the human selfishness and let the ocean to coexist within us to manifest the pure beauty of nature.
