Reflection
I am a huge procrastinator. I usually don't begin to work on a project until the very last day, the very last second. However, the work to protect the ocean and marine species cannot be delayed because every second matters. Once the marine habitats are destroyed and once the lives are taken, there is no turning back. My artwork reflects a possible future where the ocean is already completely contaminated, the beach is filled with garbage, and the fish are dead. Even though the boy feels remorse and sorrow, what good does it do? The boy cannot turn the entire ocean blue with just his tears; he is only delaying the inevitable death of the clownfish. The reason why I composed the art in a high-angle shot is also to reflect the powerlessness of the boy. There are many symbols hidden in the work as well; for example, a crab behind the boy holds a white flag signifying that the ocean has no defense against human activities. I hope this artwork can act as a reminder of what the future can turn out to be if no actions are taken. For those who see a sense of hope from this artwork, those who think the boy's action is just the beginning of a greater movement to save the ocean, I truly hope they can join the movement and begin to take actions, too.
