Reflection
My artwork was inspired by the beauty of the ocean and the power of people coming together to protect it. I was particularly inspired by Greta Thunberg who sparked numerous protests around the world and encouraged young people to join the fight against pollution and climate change. Many of the colours and shapes I have used in my artwork are inspired by coral reefs. I started my process by painting the watercolour background then added detail with fineliner pens, acrylic paint and gold leaf. At first I felt frustrated with myself, because I didn’t think I could properly capture the emotions and message that I wanted to portray. However, as I progressed with my work, I became more confident and found the process to be relaxing and therapeutic. I hope this artwork will help people visualise how real the issue is and understand that we must stand together in order to stand up for the ocean. During my research, I discovered a timeline showing the achievements of Greenpeace. It gave me hope that we can continue making a difference by standing together and demanding change. From what I’ve learned, I know that my actions can have a huge impact. I will be more conscious of my spending to ensure I am supporting businesses that aim to reduce pollution. I will also do more to demand change from my government by attending protests when I can, being vocal about the issue on social media, and signing petitions.
