Reflection

This piece was created to represent the prolonged effects of the climate crisis on people and continual stability in different parts of the natural world. The rocky cliffs and water are stable elements of the world. Both are always changing, but they have been here before us and will continue to be here after us. This strength gives a sense of tranquility. Though we must continue to care for the ocean and land, there is hope knowing that, through drastic environmental events, the Earth has continued to grow and support life. As the line of women leave their home for a new one, this painting portrays the people as immobile. Rather than show the immediate effects of the climate crisis, it shows its impact over time. As our oceans and natural lands become increasingly scarce, the ability to survive off the land dwindles too. These long-term implications of the climate crisis force these women to move from their home. I wanted this piece to represent the prolonged effects, because the changes in our climate are long-lasting. This painting conveys the severity of the climate crisis, but also how we can stand against it and be strong like the rocks and ocean.
