Water Tight
Salome Agbaroji

Global warming, waters rising.

Waters rise as we
stand by.
Temperature is high and
melts the ice.
Now what will we drink?
Coastlines sink.
Gone in a blink.

To pay our respects
to the ones coming next…

We’ve got to save the waters
‘cause the temperature is getting hotter.
We keep waiting longer,
then the harder it gets to
reverse the effects.
The window is getting smaller.
See, pollution will surely harm ya
‘cause it seeps in the water supply.
You drink and you die.
Let’s try
to make some changes in our lives that we can apply
so the seagulls can keep their home.

So we can quench our thirst.
So we can maintain the Earth.
I vow to protect my turf.
Water has infinite worth,
and ever since birth, it’s been within me.
Carbon emissions from my urban city,
refusing to change to sustainability are
forces crippling marine communities
but still do not hinder my ability to

Do what’s right. Put up a fight.
‘Cause my willpower is water tight, water tight.

Global warming, water rising.

Compromise
convenience and your pride
to change the tides
with something you haven’t tried.

Maybe change your car to electric
or use LED lighting.
Start divesting from industries
that cause the problem we’re fighting.

Global warming is a super menace.
Pollution is the apprentice.
Coastal cities sinking under the sea:
That is the long-term sentence.

Causing some difficulties:
like flooding infrastructure of our cities
and water in streets
Please, I plead
let us not make this reality
something recurring.

This is a global warning
but with power people will be swarming.
Reading in paper “the water stopped soaring.”
Saying “we did it!” “¡lo hicimos!”
from here to the foreign.

I’m hoping this music moves you,
harmonies to allude to
urge you to somehow improve
treating the ocean blue.

Do what’s right. Put up a fight.
‘Cause my willpower is water tight, water tight.
Global warming, water rising.

Water’s gonna rise.
What’s the final prize?
Will it lead to our demise
and forever change our lives?
Or will we open up our eyes
so that we can love the seas again?
Yeah, our willpower is watertight.
Will we ever be relieved again?

Yeah our willpower is water tight.
Yeah our willpower is water tight.
Yeah our willpower is water tight.
Will we ever be relieved again?

Yeah our willpower is water tight.
Yeah our willpower is water – water.
Yeah our willpower is water tight.
Water – water – ever be relieved again?

Tight – Tight – Water – Water
Tight – Water – Water
Tight – Tight – Water
Love the seas again

Water
Water
Love the seas again
Water – water

Tight – Tight – Water – Water
Tight – Tight – Water – Water
Tight – Tight
Love the seas again

Tight – Tight
Water – Tight
Love the – Water – Tight
Love the – Water – Water

Reflection
Reflection

In writing and producing the song “Water Tight,” I wanted to channel the severity of climate change’s effect on water levels in a fun and digestible way. I used sounds in the production reminiscent of water in the ocean, like seagull calls and water drops. My love for music is vast and deep, like the ocean, and I expressed that aspect of myself by incorporating multiple genres and styles in the song. I ended the song with a high-energy section to enforce that we should be optimistic while looking at our future. “Water Tight” was made to inform but, more importantly, uplift people. I have learned many new facts about the correlation between climate change and global sea levels, and hopefully my song is someone’s first tool to becoming more ocean-conscious.
