Reflection
Reflection

My first inspiration came from the declining health of the sea, a sentient being that is slowly losing her comeliness. Later, inspiration originated from my countless ocean memories as a child in Hawaii; I began to translate that into this piece of music. While creating my composition, I experienced emotions of horror, despair, and helplessness, as millions of nature’s creatures are dying, yet barely anyone is saving them. When listening to the “The Breath of Sea,” think of the last time you were at the beach, the loved ones you were with, and what joy you felt; to get the full intended experience, try to hear how the music displays the ocean’s daunting presence, as well as its beauty. It is said that the word “home” is described to be a place where one feels happy, safe, and content. Though a cliche statement, I believe the ocean serves as a second home for many of us. Now, imagine a world where that home is in ruins, tainted with nothing but pollution and death. As its children and keepers, it is our job to protect the sea, by any means necessary. Though the ocean is not a breathing life form, her breathtaking beauty is what brings mankind together. Thus, in turn, we must save the ocean. We must save our home.
