My artwork aimed to address the issue of flooding cause by climate change. I chose specifically to study the site of Thames river as it caught my attention as we were discussing about mitigation to natural disasters in geography class. Initially, I delved into the history of flooding in the Thames River where I learnt about the constant modifications of the river barrier to cope with rising sea level. To solve this issue, I wanted to make a shelter that would remain functional regardless of how much sea level rises unlike the river barrier. My creative process began with brainstorming requirements of a survival shelter. Then I drew sketches exploring various form the shelter could be, drawing significant inspiration from the Noah’s Ark. In the making process, I used recycled materials such as plastic bottles, straws and spare parts like screws. On challenge I faces was transforming these scrap materials into a visually appealing piece. I overcame this by spray painting the materials into a color scheme to give it a cohesive look. Throughout this process, I have gained a deeper understanding of impact of climate change especially to river systems. I hope my artwork not only provide an innovative solution to the problem but also convey the urgency of the issue.
