Reflection
Before beginning my creative process, I reflected on the society around me. While looking at the lives of people and communities around the world, I noticed one major factor: wealth. The privilege and wealth that we are granted govern our lives and determines our decisions. The world has evolved into a society where money is needed to have anything–even water. This idea was ironic to me as water is the most basic need of a human–yet, wealth is required to have access to clean and safe water. Many underprivileged communities around the world must live off of polluted water and contaminated water. The luxurious glass bottle of water portrayed in this artwork is simply filled with clean and drinkable water. However, even this basic resource is shockingly expensive and not accessible by all people. While researching the various reasons why people can't drink safe and clean water, I was shocked. How could the most basic need of a human be so costly and hard to access? As an individual, I've become motivated to reflect on my privileged access to water and contribute to providing clean and safe water to underprivileged communities by raising awareness and taking action.
