A Conversation Between Silent Marine Life Killers and Aquatic Life

Humans
And here we go on…
Hey aqua beasts!
we’re sorry to foresee you seized

Well, you know in the last septennial your home was renovated…
Raising to a height of about 4.5 millimetres p.a. as stated…
How wonderful it’ll be to have such a big abode,
With dissolved CO2 and having acidified water as your daily dose!!
And, don’t you worry about your ecosystems and food webs,
For we have already knuckled down fishing and pollution threads…
Lavender’s blue dilly, dilly, lavender’s green…
As you, the “marine organisms” perish,
we “homo sapiens” sit back calm and keen…

Ahem, wait here,
For there’s more to fear! (for you of course)
Oh! Did we talk about those stony skeleton corals!!
B’coz, they’re getting bleached soon and becoming mortals,
High temperature is kinda not for them sadly,
But no worries, we have enough museums
for them to rest in peace gladly!!
Now, let’s talk about some of you,
foul-smelling, water dwelling finned fish!!
Voila! Since 60% of your clan’s life will expectedly finish!!
And to remind, fast forward yourselves from endangered to extinct and don’t bother us,
We already have our albums and stories ready of yours to show the next gen,
the things of the past 🙂

Marine Representative
Well, Well, Well!!

Hey Cold Souls,
We’re also sorry to end up in your silly nature brawls!!
But you know what, your coastal areas are in sheer danger,
Anytime will be swamped or submerged while you remain a stranger!
Sea is rising steady fast and while our water level expands,
you’ll be the one stranded and begging and craving for land.
Oh come on, you think your water will be heavenly pure,
Let these glaciers melt and then see your fresh water run through the ocean door…
Firstly, help yourselves as your farming near coastal regions is sure to be devastated,
Because the sea’s acidic water is bound to enter the soils leaving crops acid-ated…
Lavender’s blue dilly, dilly, lavender’s green…
You really think while this turmoil happens you’ll be calm and keen??
We marine dwellers, might be the creatures vanishing at a rapid pace,
But mark my words, you’ll soon be the ones standing one day at our place
Wait here because your greed has shaken us all,
With your extravagant mining resources, and pollution and buildings so tall.
Whilst you hardly consider us any use
But would be surprised that ocean generate 50% of oxygen and absorb 25% of
Carbon dioxide, a deal you wouldn’t refuse
The coral reefs you say to be set up in museums, getting slowly dissolved,
Have always supported 25% of marine biodiversity and provided billion people
with protection and medication, all uncalled
For God’s sake… Stop for it can still be slowed, not reversed,
Cut down greenhouse emissions or else it will be worse…
Not just for aquatic life but for even for humanity,
Don’t squander our hopes and destroy mother earth’s sanity…
For we all are one and choose to remain so!!!!

Reflection
Reflection

I have used sardonic expression to create a dialogue between humans and life under ocean in a poetic way, which I felt would be a powerful way to share my message clearly and articulately. Through my research, I got to know some astonishing facts that I was not aware of like the ocean's contribution to our life cycle, coral reef extinction, and much more. I felt that I need to be that Superwoman, that saviour along with many others who strives hard for environmental protection. This competition has taught me more than any textbook would have because it certainly got me curious to research more about climate change, the effects of seawater rising on humans as well as marine life.
