One year ago, my teacher showed us a video of Greta Thunberg addressing the UN. The entire class was awestruck- here was a teenager, only a few years older than us, and female nonetheless, telling powerful adults that we needed a change. She was living proof that anyone can inspire anyone with hope. Greta, along with many other activists, organizations, and even just some of my friends, inspired me to create my painting. In it, there is a churning ocean filled with many fish. Some will take the kernels of hope and use it to propel them to a brighter future. Others will shy away from it, turn their backs on it, unable to believe in the possibility. Not only do the fish influence whomever they meet, but they influence the course of time as well. I hope that people will be able to see that despite feeling like they cannot make a change in such a vast world, their actions do matter, whether it be in the environment, politics, or even just their work. Although we may never be as well-known as Greta, together we will pave the way for a brighter world.
