Reflection
My piece, “A View Never Seen,” was inspired by a school trip to Camp Bernie YMCA. We were all on a hike, and we stopped to view our destination: a breath-taking view of the houses below the cliff we were standing on. It was during golden hour, too, so the view truly looked like one of nature’s hidden treasures. I can still remember some of what it felt like on that day. However, instead of simply taking in the view, I sent photos of the scenery to my friends which prompted a long time of messaging on the phone. I remember seeing a classmate who was fully enjoying her view and thinking back on it now, I realized I should have the same. Through the months that I’ve been working on this piece, I’ve grown to appreciate nature even more. I tried to relive the moments I captured with my photos and capture the feeling of being in nature. I created this painting as a reminder to love the light of nature that we’re all a part of and sometimes defy the allure of technology that hides the beauty around us.
