A Window to Nature

Reflection

The amazing architecture in cities such as Singapore inspired me because they all feature excellent, environmentally friendly solutions to problems and wonderful areas for people to connect with nature. Seeing the prompt for "concrete jungle", I decided that I would show the world what my vision of the relationship people in cities have with nature. I have always been drawn to how cities can incorporate certain natural features into their urban areas. As the cars rush across the street, the civilians can also enjoy the beauty of nature. This painting emphasizes a somewhat unexpected relationship between humans and nature, where plants, such as ivy, can grow wild, and people use their roof space to create an efficient green roof. The youth standing within the window's view is reflected off the glass, showing how humans can construct architecture that allows them to interact with nature. Using watercolor, the flow of my brush carried my creativity, leaving room for unexpected changes, just like the natural world. As I used this medium, my prowess strengthened. Creating a raised window attracts attention to the subject, and it was made using foam pieces under another piece of watercolor paper. By exploring the various ways urban areas can incorporate natural elements, I gained insight into numerous methods that can positively benefit our future environment.
