After Rain

Reflection

I was reminded of the dark rainy nights, where I would go to my backyard and onto my trampoline, staying there and quietly listening to the rain falling around me, seeming as if everything was asleep and I was the only one there. But after the rain, I would always hear frogs croaking, smell the plants in the backyard, see bees and beetles, and sometimes I would spot lizards and squirrels. So I based this piece off of the dreary nights in the rain where everything seems still, to the days after where everything becomes animated. The vibrant foreground with the flowers and frogs hiding behind the grass represents how life is there, hiding, but they are always there. I am lying on the trampoline, looking up at the sky as the clouds part and looking forward to the rain to end, but it’s darker there, showing how it is seemingly lifeless. Drawing my ideas is always exciting, as I get to see my ideas come to life, and I chose digital because I have the most experience with it. My family doesn’t go outside often; I am often holed up inside the house or in my room. However, I have learned that even though I don’t go out on hikes in the forest, I still have a strong connection to nature. My connection to nature wasn’t from spending time out in the woods, but from when I look around me with care to see the beauty of nature inside it. With my art, I want to get everyone else to see the tiny things in nature around them, like the critters that live in their lawn or the squirrels that steal from their fruit trees. There’s so much nature around us, even when things seem dreary and dead.
