Water is a basic right, right?
But i guess not
cause water companies
are saying that
that’s not true
and they leave many places
with water that’s not blue
Every day on the calendar
Another place is taken advantage of
And something seems really sinister
‘Cause a lot of the damage seems to love
To take place
Where there are minorities
Or where the poor is the majority
It can’t be coincidental
How long has flint’s water
Had more lead then a pencil
Or how companies like Nestle
Keep stealing water
From native places
They don’t seem to be helpful
If water’s a mirror
It couldn’t be clearer
That if you’re rich, you will be the winner
If you’re not, your water will be filled with litter A
nd you have to be cautious
This injustice
Should disgust us
And we need to talk about it
We need to discuss this
1 billion affected
1 billion too many
That’s contamination
Across the nations
We need a proclamation
We cannot be waiting
For all the water to abused by privatization
If water is a lens
These are the things that you will see
We should not have people using the
tap water
and usually
it does not come out the right color
Become their skin is a dark color
Because they’re affected by discrimination that is systemic
Let’s just end it
Let the word spread like the pandemic
A better world, we don’t have to pretend it
Let’s get together and live it
And let’s make sure
We remember this
If some ask if water is a right
Let’s use common sense
without it we can’t exist
So the answer is yes
Reflection
I was inspired by the anger I garnered from the shady business tactics corporations use in order to simply make a profit. My emotional state during the making of my piece was melancholy from the reality of our world, yet excited as I simply enjoyed making the song. The message is that things as important as water can become controlled and taken away by capitalism, and we shouldn't stand for this. I did not know about how water was and currently is being taken from the Indian tribes known as the Six Nations. I will appreciate the fact I have constant access to clean water and be sure not to waste any.
