“Anxious for the Future,” portrays an urgent need to address climate change and the anxiety it brings. To demonstrate this, I drew a self-portrait; looking out a window at screens of our Earth’s elements and its respective environmental issues: countless hurricanes, raging wildfires, choking sea life, and their deadly effects. With this pastel composition, I wanted to highlight my personal anxiety when thinking about the state of our environment. I found that as I continued to draw my work however, I realized that rather than simply being anxious about our plight, we must take action to reduce waste, conserve energy, and use renewable resources to make a difference. As climate change worsens, we have a responsibility to protect ourselves, our world, and the next generation!
