Reflection
My piece depicts equilibrium between humanity and the environment. This painting is inspired by my personal frustration towards mankind and its unwillingness to sacrifice greed for the greater good of our planet. For this reason, I represented humanity as an infant. While adults are often controlled by money, infants are wholly innocent. I want the audience of my piece to realize that in order to stop the problems at hand from worsening, we need to be willing to abandon the greed in our hearts and make sacrifices. The problem is, many people who are aware of climate change do nothing to stop it because they are convinced they alone cannot make a difference. Despite this, I do have hope. I trust that the younger generations will be the ones to spark change, as we are not prone to this mentality. I started learning about the relevance of climate change when I took an aquatic sciences class. After educating myself, I became more conscious of my actions and felt more inclined to change my behaviors. If more people made an effort to learn, we (as a society) could make serious progress. Simple things like the disposal of trash, the companies we buy from, and how often we use water can add up fast. Now is not the time to ignore the problem; if we want to preserve our planet, we need to fight for it.
