Reflection
The inspiration for my film, "Behind Our Screens," came from my personal experiences growing up in Lagos, Nigeria. Lagos, the most populated city in the world, is a concrete jungle where the beauty of nature is often overshadowed by urban chaos. My home was directly affected by natural disasters, especially floods, which made me a temporary climate refugee. These experiences have profoundly shaped my understanding of climate change and its immediate impact on people's lives. The creative process for this film was both introspective and research-intensive. I began by reflecting on my own experiences and how climate change has affected my community. I then expanded my research to include various documentaries and articles on global climate impacts, particularly focusing on grassroots movements in Nigeria. This combination of personal narrative and factual information helped me create a compelling story. I chose a spoken-word style for the voiceover to make the message more poignant and relatable. We cannot afford to be disconnected from nature. The beautiful facades we maintain will not shield us from the harsh realities of climate change. We must act now, respect our environment, and support sustainable practices both locally and globally.
