Reflection

Everywhere I look I want to get inspired to create my next big project. I had never used my art for such a positive ways as this. But this contest brought an eye opening experience on me and how I view all the plastic that is consumed by my surroundings.

I began by typing “pollution in our oceans” on Google images and there was one picture that grabbed my attention from all the others and it was of a dead bird that had died after ingesting plastic marine litter, I could see all the plastic inside it. An estimated 1 million sea birds die from this. So I took that picture and got inspired to create something. Marine animals are not the only ones that are affected by this, so are birds.

My type of art is fashion, creating a moving art on a women’s body. What I see in these images is a heart with black feathers which represents the birds with plastic in the center which represent the hundreds of pieces these birds ingest which end up killing them.

I used twelve black trash bags which were each sewn. It is a two piece dress the top and the skirt. The skirt is made entirely of plastic bags with the mermaid style tail and with peplum shapes on the hips. This dress is a size 6; I call this dress the “Black Death”
