Reflection
My idea originated from a deep desire to reveal what we the human beings have done to the ocean and what we can still do to make changes. I was inspired by the contrast between the breathtaking beauty of the ocean and the grief I felt upon seeing it polluted. In my choreography, I use black long-sleeved gloves to represent the pollutants: oil, plastic, and garbage. My light blue costume, in contrast, symbolizes the clean, clear ocean as it should be. The dance opens with heavy drumbeats and broad, forceful gestures, capturing the ocean’s dilemma and the human effort required to combat pollution. The softened music tempo follows, accompanied by the sound of waves rising, and I begin I carefully taking off the gloves, symbolic in a way it represents the removal of harm and therefore the return to purity and balance. Exploring the theme "The Connection with Nature: Introspection and the Outsider" has deepened by understanding: "Introspection" asks us to examine how even the smallest actions could harm the world around us. The "outsider" reminds us that action and care are demanded, and that we must move forward and take care. The message I hope to leave with my audience is simple but urgent: Our oceans are in danger, but the story isn’t over. Just as the gloves can be removed, pollution can be undone. There is still time. My dance is a small reminder—of the ocean’s power, and of our responsibility to protect it.
