Close your eyes.
You are humanity.
Ashamed of yourself,
Ashamed of your actions,
Ashamed of the world
That is melting around you
Because of you.
You closed your eyes
While the world is crying.
The glaciers,
The forests,
The ocean,
Are scared not of heat,
But of your denial.
You closed your eyes.
You are blind
To the pale coral,
The poisoned water,
The bloated ocean.
The symptoms of a sickness
You refuse to cure.
You closed your eyes
And blamed it on others.
“It’s a hoax.”
“It’s natural.”
“It’s not me.”
Though deep inside
You know “it’s me.”
You closed your eyes.
Humanity, are you
Ashamed of yourself,
Ashamed of your actions,
Ashamed of the world
That is melting around you
Because of you?
If you are, there is only one solution.
Open your eyes.

Reflection
Reflection
I strongly believe that people can change the world, and we already have - negatively. Climate change is largely influenced by human actions, such as carbon dioxide emissions. When greenhouse gas levels began to rise in the 1950s, drastically changing the climate, the general public was not aware of the effects. However, to me, the more frightening problem is that even after climate change became the most important and well-known global issue, people are still not doing enough to help. By writing this poem, I hope to open people’s eyes to this problem and inspire them to change the world, positively!
