Reflection
“Blue History” is all about understanding the sea and all of its intricate details, even behind the harm (the monochrome shades) we inflict upon it. As much as it is a play on words, it also depicts the beauty of healthy seas, despite the disturbances caused by climate change. Its concise line form characterises the fleeting nature of an environment like ours and the important connection we have with our seas. I was inspired by the sense of humanity drowning in our own actions and the way climate change has and will continue to radically change the makeup of our landscape. I chose to shape my poem as a tear to reflect both rising sea levels and the grief we as a young generation have built up while watching this climate crisis unfold.
