Blue is the Colour of our Beloved Sea

Mind gone, brain loss, stone heart, malicious
Mind gone, brain loss, stone heart malicious
No emotion to keep track, when all is turning coal black
Crooked wings no flight, black eyes no sight
What a poisonous life for damaged organisms
Black is the water that embodies the cruel as it’s stained with fuel
Which is used to power the engines that enhance tension
And harmful most to those with lost privilege
Mind gone, brain loss, stone heart, malicious
Water remains the reflector of our time
As every climate is recorded in its depths and wides
Thus as the sea changes, it becomes our sign
To stop the danger, we have put in our lives
Cause prosperity is harmful to the soul only used for social control
Blue is the colour of our beloved sea
As it carries the sky in its arms
Blue is the colour of our beloved sea
As it carries the sky in its arms
Reflection
Reflection
To me, melodies embody the fluidity of water; they move in waves, restore, and, most importantly, touch the soul as the water touches the body. Thus it seemed ideal to use musical expressions to induce reflective thinking on the importance of water. We all have this stereotypical idea of water being truly blue; thus, I wanted to create a piece themed around the colour of the sea and its impact. I encounter strong emotions of sorrow and frustration as I learn more about the dangers and causes of oil spills. Looking at pictures of stained black water burying immobilised creatures evoked the idea of writing through the lens of the impacts of black, oily water. This kind of black water serves as a mirror that shows us the greedy nature of the oil industry and its harmful and dominating presence in our society. Water is not supposed to be polluted and misused by those with privilege, and this remains the message throughout the whole musical performance. The beauty and value of water is reason enough to cherish and develop a sense of responsible protection; thus, understanding the nexus between water, food, and energy resources is among the most important elements when assuring that water is justly used. We as a society only have to realise that our mirror images can change if we choose to do so.
