With this dance, I wanted to explore the theme of equality and water being a mirror of society. Throughout her journey, she becomes aware of the real issues that are going on, but these are all diminished when perceived through a mirror. Eventually, she shatters the mirror and can finally see clearly the environmental issues and injustices occurring all over the world. However, she is glad, as now they can start addressing these problems and finding solutions to the unseen issues from before. I wanted the mirror to represent the "online world," including the media and the news that often present this perfect world, hiding the true issues. Furthermore, everyone has such different perspectives and opinions, so it's important to try and see the world from others' views. While one person may completely take water for granted each day, it's valuable to consider how so many people do not. My message was that it's important to critically think about the things we see, as not all news may be entirely correct; Also, sometimes recognizing and bringing awareness is the most difficult and most influential step in making a difference.
