When creating my film "Buzz to Bloom", I wanted it to be informative yet relatable. One day in science class, we watched an educational film, and I noticed everyone was tuned out, on their phones, zoning out, even sleeping. It made me realize that some content doesn’t feel personal or engaging to teens. I wanted to change that by including experiences teens may struggle with, like phone overuse and mental health, to create something meaningful and real. The idea for my film came after I spent hours scrolling on my phone. I felt drained, unproductive, and disconnected from everything around me. That tension between digital life and real life sparked the idea "Buzz to Bloom," how the constant “buzz” of modern life drowns out the stillness we need to recharge, something nature offers freely. I chose film because it combines visuals, sound, and story. I’m relatively new to filmmaking; my first film won a countywide anti-racism contest, which sparked my passion for the medium. I’ve always loved the arts, but this was my first time fully blending my voice, music, and visuals to explore both climate and mental health. This year’s theme helped me realize nature reflects what’s inside us. Buzz to Bloom follows a girl overwhelmed by screen time who finds peace outdoors. My friend Ellie and I, though different in personality, both feel healed by nature. That’s nature's power; it helps everyone. My message to you is: Reconnect. Go outside. Protect the Earth, for its future and yours.
