If you were to ask me what my brightest memory from childhood was, I would answer the ocean. My work came to life from the vivid memories I carry of trips I experienced with my family: from long days of hiking and swimming, to laying in my mother's arms watching the waves. While working on my canvas, I was also inspired by the album Residente, especially the song “Apocalíptico” by René Juan Pérez Joglar. Creating this piece, I realized how some individuals view nature as a luxury. I wanted to contrast how I viewed the world as a child with how I view it as a teen. I portrayed an incarcerated city using a bright bubble to represent how society forgets the value of our biomes. Currently, global warming is causing glaciers to melt, sea levels to rise, an increase in natural catastrophes, and even exposure to new bacteria that may affect the health of beings. In my work, I used silver to represent how animals in the future could be preserved through technology. This makes me imagine how future generations could lose empathy and values. It is very frustrating to be overwhelmed by several factors today to the point where we have lost our sensibility. I ask my worries, "Where has my inner child gone?" For change to occur, we can't wait for the earth to slowly deteriorate. Instead, we must work in unison to preserve the main characteristic of our humanity: the one and only Earth.
