The power of expression through art can make a significant impact, especially when there is an important message being told. This piece, titled “Chain Reaction,” depicts the issue of pollution and how it is affecting the environment. On the left side of the piece, the machinery and the air pollution convey how humans have thoughtlessly been causing the ruination of the environment. Although the everyday acts of humans may seem harmless, our limited views of the world prevent us from truly perceiving the atrocious treatment towards the environment. Due to the air pollution caused by humans, the climate has been changing, and this has been diminishing the ecosystem around the ocean. For example, the habitats of polar bears are becoming less suitable due to the continuous loss of sea ice. On the right side of the piece, the two polar bears represent all of nature which have been facing the consequences of humans’ actions. The yarn from the polar bear is unraveling and turning through the gear, symbolizing the destruction of the environment due to climate change.
