Change is Gonna Come

Verse
The Arctic ice is melting
Its biodiversity declining
Oceans are the largest carbon sink
With shells that are acidifying
I’m tired of all these people
Saying climate change isn’t real
It’s been confirmed so many times
It’s why people want the Green New Deal
Bridge
Oh we all want for a better day, better place where we
won’t have to deal with climate change
it’ll be worth the wait
Chorus
Oh I got hope so strong that it won’t stop bleeding
For the sacrifices that we need and
We have to take action if we want to get back
To the Earth that we’ve forsaken
Oh, we were sorely mistaken
It’s our planet we were saving
This world deserves so much better
We need to put in more effort
Verse
Start being more eco-friendly
Ensure that single-use is gone
Learn about renewable energy
Compost food and try to fix what’s wrong
Bridge
We’ve changed before, let’s do it again
Don’t think that climate change is the end
We still got time to win but also time to lose
This is not something that you can choose
Chorus
Oh I got hope so strong that it won’t stop bleeding
For the sacrifices that we need and
We have to take action if we want to get back
To the Earth that we’ve forsaken
Oh, we were sorely mistaken
It’s our planet we were saving
This world deserves so much better
We need to make much more effort
Ending
You’ve given up on us,
And future generations
Why can’t we just work together
To make our planet better
If we want change to come
It takes both hope and action
No more patience, we’re done waiting
This change is gonna come.
The change is gonna come
Oh I promise you just believe in me
It will come
This change is gonna show
This change is gonna glow
This change is gonna come like you’ve never seen before
This change is gonna come

The introduction to this song is supposed to resemble the tranquility of the ocean's waves until the transition to a minor key where the water is now seen as "polluted" and the need for change begins to show. Overall, I wanted the song to be more upbeat because the theme was climate hope and I wanted everyone to know that we are all in the same boat when it comes to the necessity of making change. I am so lucky to have gotten to submit for this contest because not only did I learn more about climate change and how that affects our oceans, but I've also gained hope by reading stories of the climate change activists who are already working hard for our future. This process has really taught me how vital environmental activism is, especially for my own home and state, which is on the coast and is more likely to be impacted by these rising sea levels.
