I was sitting by the ocean blue,
wishing I could be like you
Swimming by the coral reefs,
colorful and bright
Then one day my wish came true
I was swimming right by you
Seeing Nemo try to swim
with all his little ocean friends
Together we swam further in
and then the corals start to dim
Colors were almost gone
turning gray and
white
Seeing this with my own eyes
made me want to change my mind
Watching all the color dim
made me want to cry

Someday we might

Elon Musk made a car
It’s electric, it goes far
Prius still passed the test
but Tesla is who wore it best
Fossil fuels get us far
Coca Cola still needs its star
Polar bears do look nice
but not on the melting ice
Plant a tree try to care
Clean the carbon in the air
To keep SpongeBob in his pants
and Baby Shark do the dance

Reflection
I knew the Ocean Awareness Contest would help me use my creativity, but in the process I also learned the importance of climate change and the responsibility we have to take care of the oceans and the world. But after doing research, I realized that there are so many problems that I cannot control. How was I, a young girl from a rural town, going to help change people's minds? I realized the best thing I could do was to help the world have a change of heart. This is what inspired the title of my song. I decided to include some funny jokes about pop culture that would catch my generation's attention. I hope my song will provide a few laughs and maybe change people's perspective of climate change.
