Changing Our Mistakes to Actions

The gleaming waters,

Sparkling sea,

With animals around the shore.

The dolphins are playing,

Sea-turtles are swimming,

Birds are soaring through the colorful sky.

Who would ever think there would be a better life…

The golden sun shining through

The deep blue of the ocean.

The waters as pure as light.

Diamonds sparkling from its distance,

And people laying on its paradise,

Relaxing on the warm sand.

But the once purified ocean,

Is becoming a home for millions of plastic pieces.

Plastic clinging onto other animals,

Traveling through many seas and never degrading.

Red to blue to green to brown,

Pieces of plastic are scattered around.

The once purified ocean,

Becoming a home for millions of plastic pieces.

A crying seal,

With others harmed and affected too,

By the monster of plastic growing from the actions of us.

A grotesque, horrid, unbearable sight!

Though only small amount of change to fix this worldwide problem

Is happening.

These matters seem to grow worse,

Though we mainly choose just to ignore.

Thoughts continue as ideas,

But actions create a movement.

The problems created do not need to stay,

Each of us can make a change,

Helping our entire ocean free of plastic pollution.

Reflection
Reflection

As plastic pollution in our ocean is a very important problem, I was inspired to create my piece by choosing to show the two sides of our ocean currently, the polluted and clean waters. We have created the mess of plastic harming many animals like fish, birds, and other marine animals, and the artwork shows how we can pull away our mistakes and the plastic. My poem of contrast shows how there is a polluted side that we need to be aware of. This piece of artwork was created to inspire others to remember how much the ocean and its animals are affected, and how we can change the problem of ocean pollution.
