Reflection

This painting is inspired by the flood that happened in my home of Auckland, New Zealand as well as the whole upper North Island back in late January and early February. The eye in my artwork is meant to resemble our eye, the human eye. Indicating that we are watching signs of climate change and global warming around us, such as the iceberg meltdown in my painting, the water slowly flows out from the eye, referencing both tears and streams at once, the tears shed as we realise just how far gone our world is, it is too late, and humongous floods may submerge our cities. During my creative process, the flowers above the eye were once all bright and vibrant, they displayed a spectrum of beautiful colours but as I continued the process, I thought that having dead, dry plants would better incapsulate the story and message that I want to tell, which is that although we are not directly experiencing this, we are already walking that path. The message that I hope to send through this artwork is that time is precious and that our human actions are valid. If we keep ignoring this problem, we could very well end up with this ending. Upon researching on Climate change and global warming, I have learned just how much a flood can affect a person, a city or even the whole world, I have experienced for myself the impacts, just one of the struggles is my school becoming flooded early last year, I saw how the field was drenched and I was pretty shaken as I had heard the downpour of rain the night before. Upon this experience, I have taken it on myself to put in an effort, to try benefit our beautiful environment and world.
