Climate Change in the Arctic
Pembroke Pines, FL
2022, Junior, Poetry & Spoken Word
In the arctic,
On a slab of ice,
Sitting there, causing panic
A brown bear, quiet and nice
“Why are you here?”
Curious,
Looking at the pioneer
“Why so nervous?”
Bears of polar look at one another,
Confused,
“You’re not of our brothers…”
Looking amused,
“Who do you think I am?”
“I don’t know,
For all we know, your name could be Sam!
My friend, my fellow,
I am one of you!
You stranger,
How do we know that is true?
Is your reason to be of danger?
I am of polar,
But I have been tanned,
Because of the changing weather!”
Reflection
The message to readers of my poem is that although it has a bit of humor in it, climate change is a serious issue. After doing research, I learned that the only way to save the planet—and most importantly, the lives on it—we must all work together.
