Contaminated

Intro/First Verse:
Why do I love water
It’s easy and quick to get
A green and blue planet
Just what we call home
And water is over 70%
But there are people
Whose water is…
Chorus:
Contaminated!
When you wake up,
First thing you do
Take a sip of water
But what if that wasn’t there
One billion people, without water
How much does that make your heart ache
The Earth is our planet
Let’s work together and make this a better place.
Verse 2:
Waterborne pathogens and bacteria
Make people sick and cause diseases like cholera
These diseases are awful and can be fatal
Remember the waters are not just for us,
Sea creatures depend on and they really trust
The waters that we have contaminated
With plastic waste
Although water is a basic right
And people need it
There are still places
Where water has a price
Bridge:
Believe it or not,
You can change
The way that the world operates.
Yes, just one person can change the world.
Reduce the plastic,
Turn off the tap
Just some little things you can do.
The Earth is our planet
Let’s work together and make this a better place.
Chorus:
Contaminated!
When you wake up,
First thing you do
Take a sip of water
But what if that wasn’t there
One billion people, without water
How much does that make your heart ache
The Earth is our planet
Let’s work together and make this a better place.
Ooooooo, Make this a better place (x3)
(fades out) The Earth is our planet,
Let’s work together and make this a better place.
Reflection
Reflection
Before I started the research for "Contaminated," I always thought that water pollution and scarcity problems didn’t affect a lot of people. However I was very wrong. I learned that this affects a lot of people, and in more serious ways. After learning about the effects of global warming and pollution, I was determined to do something to help but was not sure what a small 12-year-old girl could do. After being inspired by the many other songs and works of art from previous years, I wanted to create one of my own. There were times while creating the song when I felt like giving up because it seemed like no matter what I did, it wouldn’t make a change. But I kept pushing through because I felt like writing this song was a way to give a voice to those who didn’t have one. Learning and researching more about this only gave me more motivation to continue to bring awareness to protect water. I hope this song not only brings that awareness, but also motivates other people to stop and do what they can to save this valuable resource.
