Nature is an endless repository of hidden treasures and quiet wonders. Inspired by this idea, my work seeks to unveil the subtle, often overlooked beauties that lie within the natural world. “Coral and Curious”, the title of my wheel-thrown teapot, embodies the essence of ocean shelves and the mysterious beauty that lies beneath the surface. This piece reflects the captivating quality of nature when brought into view, as well as its ability to enchant and inspire. For me, nature has served as a sanctuary from the monotony of daily routines, offering fresh perspectives and rekindling a passion for continuous learning and exploration. I explored the themes of treasure and mystery through the use of a slip-trailing technique and intricate sculpting of the coral, I aimed to embody the hidden treasures and interconnected mysteries of nature, from the ocean’s depths to the intricate trails that bind us to the natural world. I used watered-down underglaze to give the coral a subtle but captivating presence. Against the white background, it stands out just enough while showing the vibrance and complexity of nature's gifts. From making my work, I learned the complexity and vibrance of nature, encouraging a deeper appreciation for its timeless beauty and the endless possibilities it offers for discovery. I hope people can view my work and be inspired to continue their personal exploration by seeking a deeper understanding and relationship with nature.
