Reflection

My climate hero is Vriko Yu, Co-Founder and CEO of Archireef, a company that combines expertise in marine biology and the latest technologies in 3D printing techniques and material science to create artificial habitats that are best suited for threatened marine life. Coral reefs are essential for ocean ecosystems because they provide a food source and shelter for more than 25% of marine life. However, warming waters cause coral degradation (also known as bleaching) as they kill algae, which serve as the food resource for the corals. Additionally, pollution can also bleach corals. Vriko and her team are using 3D printing technology and traditional terracotta to restore fragile marine ecosystems. While creating this drawing, I felt disappointed that climate change and ocean pollution are causing the degradation of the ocean and indirectly harming many marine lives. However, at the same time, I felt hope for humanity and the Earth because remarkable individuals like Vriko Yu and others are dedicated to restoring our habitat and that of the animals. The message I am trying to convey is that in the ocean, many corals are dying, represented by the different-colored splotches in the background. Nevertheless, with reef tiles created by Vriko's team, the ocean can be restored. In my drawing, water flows out of the reef tile, surrounded by numerous corals and aquatic animals. The reef tile emits a radiant glow, while the background around it is pure white, symbolizing the ocean's pristine state without pollution or the adverse effects of climate change on the corals. Inspired by Vriko's remarkable efforts, my aim is to diligently promote awareness and education about climate change within the community.
