Reflection
Inspired by the works of Pawel Kuczynsk, I wanted to take his approach to painting satirical illustrations and apply it to my own idea of global warming and the pollution of the oceans. At the time, I was researching the pollution of the ocean through masks and other plastics like cups due to the pandemic. Like how we started adapting to pandemic life in an almost defeatist manner, I felt it would be interesting to take that idea and apply it to ocean pollution. Burning factories in the distance pollute the sky and water, the oceans fill with trash and debris, animals are shrouded in trash as if it's a normal fashion accessory. However, sadly, life goes on as, even if our environment changes, we continue to go on with our everyday activities, adapting to this incoming doom until our environment itself consumes us completely. We must actively engage with our communities, since change won’t happen until we convince those who are responsible for most of the pollution. If we do almost nothing like my painting depicts, all we can do is watch as our world burns.
