Dirty Water, Dirty Society

Round and round the globe,
She has seen the entire world,
And perhaps even beyond,
Carried by astronauts into space.
She has traveled through space and time,
Existing before man and woman.
She has watched the world dance around the sun
An infinite amount of times.
Swallowed by the dinosaurs,
Swam through by the fish,
She has watched the planet evolve,
And the evolution hurt her every time.
She was once a magnificent sight,
For all to stare at and enjoy,
Her eyes little pools of crystal water,
Her body was the oceans thriving,
With a beating heart of pure water.
Like an illness, they dumped their toxins into her soul,
The humans left her befouled.
She didn’t have the strength to speak,
So she was left alone.
We are our waters,
They are our keys to survival,
If our waters are dirty,
Society is dirty, and that has got to change.
Reflection
Reflection
What inspired my work was mainly the fact that the way we treat our waters reflects what our society looks like. We relentlessly dump our toxins into the oceans, just like we relentlessly dump our harsh words and actions onto each other. When doing this project, I felt a little angry at the way we have treated each other and our waters for thousands of years. My message to the viewers of my work is that this is a real problem, and it shows who we are. If we all come together to make an effort and take a step forward in fixing this problem, perhaps it will be a step closer to a more united society. When researching water, I discovered how dirty our water really is.
